Updates and Highlights

  •
  • July 18 - NY Midgets lost the semi-finals of the Richmond Hill tournament to Richmond Hill by an 8-7 score.   NY fell behind 5-0 but scored six runs in the 4th for a temporary lead.  Richmond Hill was the home team in this first ever "Green & Gold Classic" held in Richmond Hill.   Statistics and results to be added later today.  Pictures to be added later this week.
  • July 17 - The NY Midgets finally defeated Peterborough - one of the only associations we had never beaten (0-3) in our seven-year history.  The only other associations the NY Midgets have never beaten are Tecumseh (0-2), Niagara Falls (0-1), Waterloo (0-1) and Mississauga Majors (0-1).
  • July 17 - NY Midgets advanced to the semi-finals of the Richmond Hill tournament by defeating Peterborough 10-3.  NY was trailing 3-2 in the 5th inning but broke out with eight runs in the bottom half.  Andrew Z. pitched a complete game and struck out eight batters.  We have only lost 2 of our past 16 games.
  • July 17 - NY Midgets won their second game of the Richmond Hill tournament against Thornhill 6-5 after scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.  Daniel H. pitched the final two innings and held the lead in the 7th.
  • July 16 - NY Midgets won the opening game of the Richmond Hill tournament by defeating a strong Newmarket 17s team by a 5-2 score.  Prasana pitched 100 pitches even and struck out six batters and Marlon came in for the save in the 6th inning.  Nik had three hits and four RBI - including a monster tape-measure homerun that curved around the left-field foul pole.
  • July 16 - NY Midgets recent roster changes include introducing Prasana to the team, welcoming back Evan after a short two-week absence, and wishing Broidy the best in his future baseball activities.
  • July 15 - Standings updated
  • July 15 - NY Midgets defeated North Toronto 15-7 in their second rivalry game this season.  Both teams are in the Richmond Hill tournament this weekend.  Steven (who is not attending Richmond Hill) followed Matt R. in posting a strong outing on the mound.  Both pitchers combined to strikeout 14 NT batters.  Marlon and Thomas each had three hits.   The final NT-NY rivalry game is Friday July 23rd at Talbot.
  • July 13 - Steven hit a homerun and had 4 RBI as the NY Midgets rallied from being down 7-4 to defeat Toronto Playgrounds 14-7 in a nine-inning game.  Andrew Z struck out 11 batters in four innings - a single fly ball to centre field being the only work for the defense in those innings.  NY Midget pitchers set an NY Midget record by striking out 17 Toronto Playgrounds batters.  The previous record was 14 High Park batters set on July 10th 2008.
  • July 11 - Oshawa tournament results added.
  • July 11 - NY Midgets lost in the semi-finals to Mississauga Southwest - ending an eight-game unbeaten streak.   Matt T's and Harrison's back-to-back doubles in the sixth inning brought our team to within one run but Mississauga's strong pitcher (10 Ks vs. 0 BBs in 7 innings) did not allow the tying run.  Mississauga broke out in the 7th inning to run up the final score to a deceiving 9-2.  Statistics updated.  Pictures and tournament results to come.
  • July 10 - NY Midgets advance to the semi-finals of the Oshawa tournament for the sixth time in the last six years.
  • July 10 - NY Midgets defeated Ajax 3-2 by scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and hanging on to hold off Ajax in the 7th.  Andrew Z's sac bunt turned into a three-base error that also scored two runners.  Andrew would later score on Marlon's hit to the shortstop.  Mikey pitched a quick 6 1/3 innings giving way to Prasana for the final two outs.
  • July 10 - NY Midgets tied Newmarket AAA 1-1 in the second game of the Oshawa tournament.  Andrew Z and Prasana combined for a two hitter over seven innings.  The evenly matched game was played economically in 1 hr 35 mins.
  • July 9 - NY Midgets won the opening game of the Oshawa tournament 7-2 against Clarington.
  • July 8 - NY Midgets defeated the Team Ontario Women 12-1 in seven innings.  NY pitchers walked nine batters and hit five more batters with pitches - but still held the Women to only one run.
  • July 10 - During winter workouts in February, NY Midgets players were tasked with predicting five landmarks of the season - with small monetary awards available for each closest prediction.  Harrison correctly guessed the player who would score our first run (AJ).  No player correctly guessed the first opponent against whom we would score ten runs (Whitby T2).  The other three landmarks - Daniel M's 10th walk, Matt R's 3rd stolen base, and Andrew Z's 10th batter struckout - were all predicted by Daniel M who guessed July 10th for each achievement.  Matt R stole three bases on July 5th (Daniel's guess of July 10th was the nearest), Andrew Z struckout his 10th batter on July 10th (Daniel's guess was perfectly accurate) and Daniel himself walked for the 10th time on July 10th (Daniel again guessed the exact date).
